The documents you need depend on the transaction. Most vehicle transactions require valid government-issued identification and the original title, registration, purchase paperwork, lien information, or other ownership documents that apply to the vehicle.

New Mexico title and registration transactions may also require proof of insurance, proof of New Mexico residency, an odometer reading, and a VIN inspection. Vehicles coming from another state generally require a VIN verification before they can be titled in New Mexico. Review our What to Bring section or contact us before visiting if your situation involves a lien, missing title, estate, gift, or out-of-state vehicle.

Yes. We can help customers bringing a vehicle into New Mexico complete the title and registration process. Bring the vehicle, the original out-of-state title or other ownership document, the current odometer reading, valid identification, proof of New Mexico residency, proof of insurance, and any lienholder information.

New Mexico requires a VIN inspection for vehicles coming from another state. If the vehicle is financed and the lender holds the title, the title may need to be requested from the lienholder before the transfer can be finalized. Emissions compliance may also be required for qualifying Bernalillo County vehicles.

Yes. EZ MVD is a privately operated MVD service provider. Our service fees are charged in addition to applicable state title, registration, plate, tax, penalty, inspection, or other MVD fees.

The total depends on the transaction and any additional work required. We will explain the applicable charges before completing your transaction so you understand what is being paid to the state and what is being charged for our service. New Mexico confirms that private MVD offices may charge administrative fees in addition to state MVD fees.
